VOD is uesd to further refing of molten steel which comes from primary furnace such as EAF,induction furnace. Ladle is put into cacuum tank. Under vacuum condition, argon is blowed in from ladle bottom ,oxygen is blowed in from top to decarburize. Partial pressure of CO in the furnace is lowered. Carbon and oxygen reaction is promoted. So, we can get goal of removing carbon and keep chrome. This method is called cacuum method. VOD is an important equipment of extra low carbon stainless steel and high alloy steel refining.
