3. Construction and Features

This machine is composed of pay-off stand, headstock, tube, bobbin holder, under-roller, brake, bearing box, die holder, haul-off capstan, take-up & traversing stand, and safety hood.

3.1. Pay-off Stand

Located before the headstock, it is actually a bobbin holder fitted on a support. The methods for installation of bobbin and for the adjustment of tension are shown on the stand.

3.2. Headstock

Located behind the pay-off stand, the tube component is joined with the main shaft of the headstock on one side, and drive is passed from a motor into the headstock via a belt. With the change of the gear lever, its possible for the tube to get two speeds, which is optional to the user as per different wire diameter and material. Rotation of the tube passes drive to the transmission shaft beneath the headstock, and the transmission shaft is connected with the headstock.

3.3. Tube and bobbin holder

The stranding tube is formed by six tubes combined together, which are featured by two windows and outside threading. There are 24 windows on the circumference of the tube to make it easy to load or unload the bobbin; inside the tube dam plate is welded, on which bearing seats are fitted. The bobbin holder is supported on the bearing seat on the two ends, which are on the same co-axis with the tube. Therefore, when the tube rotates, the bobbin holder remains basically still due to gravity.

The bobbin holder is of pintle type. Put the bobbin in the left and right sleeves on the holder, and then insert it into the shaft input of the bevel gearbox when locking device props out by itself. Operate the handle to make the bevel gear run, driving the rack to move the pintle to push the bobbin tightly, then remove the handle, and the locking device springs back by itself to lock. Its the same process to unload an empty bobbin.

3.4. Under-roller

The tube is supported by the headstock on one end, and the rest ends by six sets of under-rollers. The outer layer of the under-roller is made of cloth-layered plate, with bearings on two sides, and there is an oil cup inside the hood. The under-roller is lubricated by oil drips so as to minimize noise.

3.5. Brake

In the middle of the tube there are five pairs of brakes, and for every pair of brakes there is a brake. When power supply to the main machine is off, solenoid valve turns on to enable air push a lever through film cylinder, and the pair of brake shoes clamps the brake ring, thus forcing a quick stop.

3.6. Bearing box

A bearing box is set at the stranding shaft, which makes it easy for installation of the main machine. Behind the bearing box there is a pre-shaper for shaping the steel wire in advance.

3.7.Die Holder

Located after the tube, the die holder is for adjusting and bunching the wire and fixing the focus. By turning the hand wheel at the back of the die holder, its possible to enable the die holder to move along the axis; by tightening the screws on the sides of the die holder, its possible to fix the die holder. In the center of the die holder, there is a square slot to accommodate the wire die, which is made by the user according to different size of strands.

3.8. Gearbox and Haul-off Capstans

Gearbox is located behind the die holder, and the haul-off capstans are joined behind the gearbox, which is for shifting the pitch and stranding the wires. Drive is from the output shaft of the transmission box, and is passed directly into the gearbox and the haul-off capstans by the transmission shaft. The gearbox has 36 stages.

Drive is passed from two small bevel gears and two large bevel gears. Between the two large bevel gears there is a clutch, by moving the lever of the clutch it is possible to keep the direction of rotation of the shaft of the large bevel gear unchanged regardless of the rotation whether clockwise or anti-clockwise, i.e. left stranding or right stranding. Therefore the haul-off capstans will keep its rotating direction unchanged, i.e. the direction of haul-off movement is unchanged.

3.9. Take-up and traversing stand

The take-up and traversing stand is stationary individually driven by a torque motor. It is composed of universal shaft coupling, bracket, pillar, lifting mechanism and moving box.

Three-phase AC motor in WLJ series has unique electrical characteristics. When load increases, the output shaft will automatically reduce its speed so that take-up tension can remain basically unchanged. This means it performs winding well. At the same time, by changing the input voltage to the motor, its possible to change the output torque of the motor, thus changing the take-up tension. So adjustment of tension is easily done, and once it is adjusted, its easy to repeat it correctly.

3.10. Safety Hood

Safety hood is of sliding type, and only when it is closed its possible to start up the machine. At the back of the operation desk a copper rod is fitted and is insulated from the safety hood. This copper rod is connected with a low voltage power, and the tube is earthed. In case of wire break, the broken wire touches the copper rod under the centrifugal force, power supply to the main machine is cut off, and the machine stops.
