Introduction of biodiesel

ASTM’s definition for biodiesel is long-chain fatty acid alkyl monoester produced from renewable lipid resources such as vegetable oil or animal fat. "Bio" means a renewable biological resource compared with fossil diesel; "diesel" refers to that it can be used in diesel transmitter. Biodiesel as an alternative fuel, it can be used in pure states or mixed with fossil diesel.

Advantage of biodiesel

First of all it can get from local renewable resource, reducing dependence on imported fuel oil;

Secondly, it is biodegradable and non-toxic. Compared with fossil diesel, biodiesel have many advantages in the combustion emissions, such as carbon monoxide, particle and unburned hydrocarbon emission is low. CO2produced by combustion of biodiesel can circulate through photosynthesis, so the greenhouse effect is minimized.

Third,biodiesel has a very high flash point, volatility is low compared with fossil diesel, make it more secure in the storage and transport. Lubricating properties of biodiesel can reduce engine wear and prolong engine life span.

Technical scheme of biodiesel equipment

The brief description of Technologies process

Pretreatment of plants oil

Crude plants oil contains acid fat and unsaponifiable impurities, which is unfavorable to produce methyl ester in esterification and transesterification reaction, pretreatment is necessary. Removal of impurities such as water, phospholipids generally use physics-based method, through physical refining remove solid debris and some water; phospholipid content and viscosity can be reduced by degumming (wet process degumming or membrane filtration, sometimes add aluminum sulfate for animal fats); water removal through standing, centrifuge or film evaporating.

Pre-treatment includes two reactors, one evaporator ,two filters and two condensers.

Glycerol esterification

The pretreated waste vegetable oil is delivered to the esterification reactor through pump, and then add catalyst with a certain rate, the blender constantly stirring by self-circulation in the processof adding methanol, make the raw materials in a well-distributed state, while remove the water in reaction ,Open the heating system, when the temperature rose to the requirement, start time . Sample and test the acid value of the materials in reactor, when reaching the standard, close the methanol valve, open the emptying valves, turn off the heating system. Reacted materials are delivered to tundish tank through the pump. Raw materials in the tank maintain a certain level of volume, while the raw materials are sent to other heating parts to exchange heat through pump to achieve the comprehensive utilization of energy. Then cooling down the raw materials to a temperature suitable for downstream processing through the oil condenser.

Transesterification reaction

Esterified raw materials are transmitted through the pump to transesterification reactor, in the reactor, and then add methanol, KOH / methanol solution by metering pumps respectively for ester-exchange reaction. Glycerin in the reaction will be separated using gravity separatormatching Three-horizontal stirred reactor or centrifuge separation.Isolated crude methyl ester is sent to the methyl ester tundish, crude glycerine are sent to crude glycerine tundish. And then through the respective flash evaporator ,methanol will extruded into the middle tank for recycling.

Continuous vacuum distillation

The crude biodiesel after removal of methanol is delivered to vacuum distillation continuous falling film reboiler T601 for vacuum distillation, liquid temperature is controlled in the 180 ~ 280 °C in distillation tower,methyl vapor temperature is 120 ~ 220 °C. Distilled bio-diesel continues generating from the condenser on the top of the tower, and brings into the distillate tank after cooling, high purity biodiesel can be achieved.

Continuous vacuum distillation includes a falling film reboiler, and the support of the membrane distillation tower, as well as the condenser and vacuum system. Biodiesel produced by transesterification usually need washing in softened water, or it is difficult to remove soap, glycerol and other impurities completely, the product generally has darker color, low purity and poor stability. Crude product of biodiesel refined through distillation can remove fatty acid methyl ester and other impurities and pigment effectively, the purity of final bio-diesel is very high and the color is light, particularly the color of methyl ester from plant crude oil become light yellow from dark before the distillation, before the color becomes dark yellow. In order to prevent oxidation in the high temperature distillation, the use of vacuum continuous distillation method significantly reduces the distillation temperature. The process can be used by controlling the distillation temperature to get different quality biodiesel.

Water containing hydrochloric acid

In glycerol transesterification, there will always have a part of water containing hydrochloric acid, the next step, if KOH is used in the process of alkali-catalyzed transesterification, these solution is taken to the procedures of refinement of potassium sulfate to recover the potassium sulfate fertilizer, in the case of NaOH, another handling processes is needed.

Waste

In the vacuum continuous distillation, there is a small amount of distillation residue, these residues can be used as boiler fuel or saled as chemical products.
