Atmospheric storage tanks and pressurized process vessels must be designed, constructed, and documented according to specific codes and carefully tested and inspected before being placed in service. United group’s engineers and designers understand these codes and their impact on the cost and construct ability of these vessels. Specialized design requirements include:
Storage Tanks:
- Standard storage tanks are designed according to API 650 or UL 142, providing the best value for the customer’s investment and long-term service.
- Low pressure storage tanks are designed according to API 620.
- Storage tank installations often require specialized designs:
- Tanks holding products at elevated temperatures.
- Anchored tanks to meet wind and earthquake requirements.
- Secondary containment designs, including doubled shells, secondary floors, with and without embedded insulation, etc.
- Supported or self-supporting roof designs, including clear-span designs for center agitator installations.
- Support designs for roof mounted agitators, including designs that allow removing the agitator without taking the tank out of service.
- Tanks fabricated of carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Relief of internal pressure and vacuum, as well as designs of tank blanketing and fume collection, removal, and destruction.
- Specialized insulation systems on high temperature or temperature sensitive applications.
- Tank inspections, repairs, alterations, and reconstructions are designed according to API 653.
- United Group uses the MathCAD program to perform specialized design calculations.
Pressure Vessels:
- Pressure vessels are designed using ASME Section VIII Division 1 as the primary design code.
- Component designs for Division 1 vessels are prepared according to alternative rules for the design of pressure vessels per ASME Section VIII Division 2.
- Fitness-For-Service Evaluations are performed per API 579.
- Fatigue analysis for cyclic loading.
- Calculations are performed using PVElite, CodeCalc 2010 and MathCAD.
United Group has developed tank and vessel designs which meet the customer’s specific needs, while following the code requirements, and with an eye to providing them at the minimum cost.
