PVD stands forPhysical Vapor Deposition, among hardware industry, PVD is frequently referred to as Ion Plating (IP). PVD is the technology of using physical way to coat materials onto the substrates in the condition of vacuum.

Cathodic arc deposition ( Arc-PVD ) machineis used for coating anti-abrasive films (such as TiN, TiC and TiALN), anti-corrosive films (such as Cr, TiN), decorative films (gold-imitation TiN) such as watchcase, little hardware and ceramic decoration.

Titanium Nitride is a gold coloured ceramic coating applied by PVD. High hardness combined with low friction properties ensure considerably longer tool life, or alternatively, better cutting performance from tools which have not been coated. TiN coating is used mainly for drills and taps.
