Working principles of microwave
Introduction of microwave:
Microwave is a high-frequency electromagnetic wave, whose frequency ranges from 300~300,000 MHz (the relevant wavelength is between 100~0.1 cm). Generally speaking, the frequency of microwave used in industry field is 2450±50 MHz and 915±30 MHz.
Microwave has a longer wavelength than such electromagnetic waves used for radiation heating as infrared ray and far-infrared ray. Therefore, microwave has a better penetrability.
Working principles:
Material such as water contains a lot of polar molecules which oscillate freely in the electromagnetic field. When it is put in a microwave circumstance, under the function of high-frequency microwave, those polar molecules oscillate in the same high frequency with the microwave. The polar molecules rub against each other and generate a lot of heat. Therefore, the temperature of the whole material will rise and finally vaporize water.
Materials which have a strong absorbability of microwave heat up rapidly and easily. The absorbability is mainly determined by the material’s dielectric loss factor. The larger it is, the higher the absorbability. Different materials have different dielectric loss factor, and thus get different heating effect.
Advantages of microwave:
1. Due to microwave’s good penetrability, it heats up the material from both outside and inside. As a result, it largely reduces the time for heating.
2.Microwave’s heating effect is instantaneous and only material-active. So it can reduce heat consumption.
3. The output power of microwave is adjustable. The heating process can be changed freely, and no waste heat. It is very favorable for automatic and continuous production.
