Motor frames, shells, machine bodies etc involve critical right angle machining at long distance from the machine spindle, which the in-built cross traverse mechanism in the machine cannot reach. Long Reach Right Angle Milling Attachment is specially designed to provide the right angle machining capabilities at a distance from the machine spindle. Length of the long reach from the machine spindle to the attachment spindle is tailor made up to approximately 1.5 meters. The attachment generally consists of a single piece CI/steel-cast body, a pair of spiral bevel gears, a spindle and a shaft. The shaft is rigidly supported by suitable bearing arrangement in the housing. At its front end, a spiral bevel gear is mounted, which, in-turn will drive another spiral bevel gear, mounted on the back of the spindle. A pair of deep groove ball bearing in the flange side and another matched pair of angular contact bearings at the spindle side will support the main drive shaft inside the housing. The spindle taper can be ISO / METRIC / MT / BT. Automatic clamping / de-clamping of draw bolt is optionally offered through a hydraulic cylinder and a stack of Belleville gears, in the place of standard manual clamping of draw bolt.

If tilting of the spindle unit is required for angular machining, a circular T slot based flange is introduced either at the base of the spindle housing or at the base of extended arm.

The attachment is mounted with the spindle of the boring machine with the help of 4 mounting bolts & dowel pins. The drive is through an adopter or through tenons. The spiral bevel gears get located in the shafts/spindles through adequately dimensioned and ground splines.

The spindle, adopter, spiral bevel gears are made of case hardening steel, case hardened and ground/lapped. The spindle bearings are lubricated for life with molybdenum sulfide grease and the spiral bevel gears are grease packed. The input and output spindle speed ratio is generally 1:1.
