Features of Aluminum spot welder AL-8:
1. Features of Aluminum
The characteristics of aluminum include lightweight, fast heat dissipation, corrosion resistant, good elasticity, excellent anti shock properties, good moldability and easy to re-cycle. It is increasingly used in vehicle bodies. Advantages of an aluminum body car includes fuel economy, safety and strength. Many brands of cars utilize aluminium construction in full or in part such as BMW, Audi, Volvo, Land Rover, Mercedes Benz and etc.
Due to it's lower melting point and quick heat dissipation, special tools and methods are required to repair aluminum panels.
2. Necessary conditions for repairs of aluminum bodies and panels include
Technicians will need special training
The work area must be explosion proof with a dust arrest system to prevent build-up of aluminium dust. Aluminum dust is harmful when inhaled into the body. It is also highly flammable, therefore precautions must be in place to ensure safety in the work area
Equipment must be positioned with the crossbeam corrector
Aluminum tools must be kept separate and not mixed with the steel repair tools to prevent cross contamination. Steel dusts on aluminium panels can cause galvanic corrosion.
3. Procedures to repair the aluminum car body
1) Aluminum Panel Repairs
Wood and soft faced tools, hammers, dollies can be used. To minimize stretching of aluminium panels, off dolly method is recommended. Restoration is done with the aluminum spotter together with the special tools such as the flat nose pliers to cut off the welded stud and then grinded down
Before restoration, it is recommended to heat aluminum panel moderately. Due to its low melting point (660 ) caution must be observed as aluminium melts easily and without warning.
When the aluminum is extended from the heating process it then slowly contracts for processing
2) Aluminum Panel Welding
Before welding starts, apply paraffin or grease as an eliminating agent to clean the position that is to be welded.
When MIG welding aluminum, 100% argon gas should be used.Compare to MIG welding of steel, the gas flow rate should be increased by 50%. The welding torch position should be close to vertical
Use only push technique for aluminium MIG welding. Pull techniques are not suitable for aluminium.
The traditional transformer based dent/stud welders and spot welders, inverter spot welders included, cannot be used to repair or weld aluminium panels. To repair aluminium panels, special stud welders are used.
Our aluminium spotter is particularly suited for aluminium repair, with features as follows :
Utilizes capacitor stored discharge technology
It is not affected by the circuit strength due to uses special storage for energy capacity from SUZUKI Japan that has a stable quality and a strong output
The tip ignition technology with its discharge capacity reduces the welding process to a very short time (3millisecond). This minimizes overheating that can cause deformation on the panels, or paint work and coatings on the reverse side of panels.
Digital and LED display and adjustment of voltages ensures accurate control of welding process
Comes complete with various accessories to to meet all repair requirements
Can also be used for stud welding of steel, copper and galvanized steel.
