Principle:

In nature, natural water contains some metal ions,when the water is heated, the matal ions will form the solid attachments of different density, different component because of water evaporation, and these concentrations of metal ions in water is called water hardness. For natural water, these metal ions are mainly calcium (Ca2 +), magnesium (Mg2 +) ions. When the raw water through the softener, the calcium and magnesium ions in water will be exchange out of the sodium ion, so it can reduce hardness of the water and can achieve the standard.
