The Hot Water / Split System (Combo) has been designed to allow the wasted hot energy from a standard air conditioning system to be used to heat water to a maximum of 65 °C (factory default set to 52°C). In the cooling Combo mode it produces the hot water FREE from all energy costs. The HWS/Split Combo uses R417a as the refrigerant producing the most environmentally friendly system of its time. The system operates in three modes of hot water, cooling and heating. It can operate collectively of individually in any of these modes.

As with all heat pump type hot water systems, the Combo also gains free energy from the sun. This standard refrigeration principal takes the heat from the ambient temperature and absorbs it when passing through the refrigeration system.

The system has been designed especially to reduce the overall current from the combination of a separate electric hot water system (10 amps) and a split system (3.5 KW - 5 amps) air conditioner. The current of the new Combo is only 7 amps maximum and reduces the above electrical requirements by 9 amps.

The system works by transferring the water from the storage tank and passing it through a pump and double wall heat exchanger located inside the outdoor unit. The water is heated by the hot gas heat that is usually discharged as waste energy when the unit is in cooling mode.
